Don began his professional journey in accounting before transitioning into real estate, where he found his passion for the multifamily sector. During his time with The Cates Company, the predecessor to Mid-America Apartment Communities (MAA), Don played a pivotal role in the company’s growth, including its successful public offering. His contributions were instrumental in expanding MAA into one of the largest multifamily REITs in the U.S.

Throughout his career, Don has been involved in multifamily transactions totaling billions of dollars. His deep expertise in financial modeling, deal structuring, and market analysis has allowed him to navigate and complete high-value transactions. He also briefly served as CFO during MAA’s public offering and later advised on strategic growth and capital allocation as an outsourced Chief Investment Officer.

Don is known for his financial acumen, leadership, and ability to guide clients through complex deals, earning a reputation as a trusted advisor in the multifamily investment space.

Don’s philanthropic efforts are highlighted through his significant contributions to Compassion International, where he donates 50% of his personal earnings.
